If caught in the early stages before the decay has caused holes to occu in our teeth (known as cavitation). the disease is a revrsible one.  Through the application of fluoride-containing products and a good diet low in sugar (on which plaque feeds), these early lesions, that are generally white or brown/black in colour, can harden and revert back to the original state.  Once cavitation has occured the decay must be removed and the tooth restored using some form of filling material.

The therapist will provide advice on good diets as well as apply fluoride medicaments to affected teeth.  In molar teeth felt to at risk from decay, the application of a fissure sealant to the biting surface will reduce the risk of attack.
